Ochabe Opens its Doors

Ochabe Opens its Doors

After 4 years with a virtual presence, Ochabe embarked on a new challenge: to have a physical existence. Thanks to the support of Fondo Emprender, an initiative of the National Government that grants seed capital to finance business ideas, this dream became possible. Of course it was not easy, nor fast. It took us three attempts to finally obtain official ‘approval’.

Ochabe’s identity resides in the ancestral weaving in natural fibers, supporting artisan communities, and generating decent sources of employment. The inspiration for the brand is the creativity and character of two women who, many years ago, decided to embark on the artistic journey with iraca palm handcrafts that they themselves wove, traveling through various parts of Colombia selling their art. These women were the grandmother "Ocha" and the great-grandmother "Machabe," who today serves as the inspiration of Ana María Márquez and Karla Márquez to continue the initiative of offering products woven of tradition and sustainability.

On January 24, 2020, the inauguration of our first physical point in the city of Barranquilla took place. Our founder, Ana Márquez, accompanied by the team of artisans, designers and other collaborators of Ochabe, were greeted by various guests, including other entrepreneurs, tourism agencies and creative groups.

After many months of work looking for the perfect location, we decided on an establishment that displayed the identity of our brand on all sides, especially since the interior design was made with sustainable materials and local labor. We wanted to offer a space where people could develop their creativity and skills, allowing them to recreate and give free rein to their ideas. However, due to the crisis of the pandemic, we had to close the doors. We then moved to a new space located at Cra 49 # 63-59 in the Boston neighborhood. However, we could only function as a warehouse and product workshop .

Our desire to continue weaving history does not end, so we are working with a lot of love and dedication so that you can have the best virtual experience when visiting us. Soon we will be sharing about our weaving courses and workshops.
